Usually, the steps outlined in this syllabus will be accomplished together with your ‘Connector’ (usually the person who helps you onboard with the Connect Collaborative or CC). However, if your connector is unavailable, you could accomplish these steps on your own.
Together with your Connector you can go through some basics and learn how to start inviting people you don’t know yet (as well as those you do) to take a look at the Connect Collaborative via a CC Intro session.
The objective is for you to be inviting people you know and reaching out to others on LinkedIn with a view to having a Zoom or phone call to discuss how you and they can be collaborating more closely to build your networks.
Important note about your ‘Discovery’ call
When you speak with others, talk about the idea of them collaborating more closely with you to build a relationship-based network.
Your call should NOT be to promote the Connect Collaborative
It’s about finding out if building a relationship-based network is important to your contact
If so, you can move the conversation around to suggest meeting some like-minded others who are doing just that – in a systematic way
Allow the CC Intro call to do the heavy lifting as to what the CC is about
Typically, your Connector will help you onboard the people you know who are keen to build their networks using the CC network building system (and typically you’ll learn a lot simply by observing how your connector does this).
However, many people have managed to learn how to do this successfully by working through this Syllabus with little help from their Connector.
If, for any reason your Connector is temporarily unavailable and you are keen to get going, you can start working through this Syllabus on your own.
You’ll find the Syllabus is very detailed and will give you a great deal of help. You can also benefit greatly by attending interactive workshops and there are many other resources that will help.
Also, don’t hesitate to ask your Connector if they can recommend someone else who can help while they are temporarily distracted.

How to Register a new member of your team

Register a new member of your team
The 5 Golden Questions
You will be investing time with anyone you are helping to onboard.
So it’s very important you are sure you want to work with this person (or at least give them the benefit of the doubt)
There is no point in working with the unwilling!
Weave these questions (in your own words) into your initial Phone or Zoom interview.
It’s wise to ask these questions directly before onboarding.
Be prepared to suggest to your new person that you believe the timing may not be right for them if you have any doubts.
The 5 Golden Questions can really assist you in this regard.
● Do you feel you would be more successful (both as an individual and as a business) if you built a strong network?
● Do you have an interest in building your network?
● Would you be prepared to set aside some time each week to learn the skills of building a team of team building advocates on the one hand and leveraging commercial value from your network on the other?
● Would you be prepared to dedicate some time each week to put what you have learned into practice by pro-actively reaching out to those you have not yet met via Social Media?
● Are you prepared to invest some time each week interacting with and advocating for others?
Registration is only the first step – its the following onboarding sessions that count most
In general, onboarding a new person gives you an opportunity to build your relationship with them and subsequently with the people they introduce.
This is a vital part of your team-building process.
Yes, you are there to help technically onboard new people and show them around the CC but it’s best to view them as a team-building partner that you are looking to foster a relationship with (this is essentially what relationship-based network building is all about).
The systematic aspects of onboarding someone new is well covered by later lessons in this syllabus and are various workshops.
The basic steps are:
Also bear in mind that different people have differing levels of technical adaptability (you may need to work at a slower pace with some than others).
When onboarding a new person, it’s a good idea to set the expectation that you will be helping them every week for about the first 4-6 weeks after which you’ll review how often you meet with them. If you decide to meet less frequently, it will give them an opportunity to use the time to attend other CC events such as Results Accelerator meetings.

Notes on the registration screen (shown above)
The fields denoted with an asterisk (*) must be entered. Fields not marked with an asterisk can be filled in later.
Username
This can be anything but we prefer “First Name Last Name”
E-mail Address
This is their usual email address.
Important
This may not be the email address the use to log into Google with
If not they will need to enter their Google email address in the next field
Google E-mail Address
It is important to know what email address they have logged into the Chrome web browser with (that is the Google email address they are using). It’s important to get this right or they won’t be able to access the Fellow Collaborators sheet later on and this will cause frustration you can avoid!
Your Google Email
In many cases, you will have an email address that is different from the one you use to login into your Chrome web browser. For example, you may have a contact email which is something like Me@mycompany.com Whereas, you log into Google (i.e. your Chrome web browser) with an email address that could be different.
Mobile Phone Number
This is requires so that we can send SMS updates about the weekly workshop.
It also allows other collaborators to get in touch with them
Your Local Hub
This is selected from a drop-down selection (e.g Brisbane or Sydney)
Website / Link to further information
This field will often be filled in later.
It may be link to a company website.
However, it may also be a link to a Google doc with information for other collaborators with links to other websites
Relevant Industries
The industries which are relevant for this person can be chosen from a list
When “Other” is chosen, another box will appear and the Collaborator can type a couple of industries in free-form
Relevant Positions
The position titles (such as “Director”) which would be relevant to describe this collaborator
Your Connector
When you are helping a new person to onboard, ask them to enter the contact email address you used when you registered (NOT your Google email address)
Explain that it could take a bit of time to find you. When found, your details will be shown as displayed.
Note: If not found, they may have entered your email address incorrectly (or you may have given them an email address other than the one you used to register)
Card Information
Explain to the person you are onboarding
- Their card information is not stored anywhere in our system
- If asked, explain that in the first instance all details on this form are collected by a plugin called PaidmembershipsPro (which has an exceptionally good reputation) and then passed to the Stripe payment gateway. Stripe is well known to many in business as being one of the most secure payment gateways. Stripe is fully PCI compliant.
- Their credit card will not be immediately charged and after that, it is only $85 per month (easily cancelled at any time should they decide to). Initially, this is similar to checking into a hotel which requires entry of your credit card. even though there is no immediate charge.
Terms & Conditions
Remember to get them to tick agreement to the terms and conditions
Mailing List
This box is ticked by default and means they will receive a flyer about upcoming weekly meetings
After selecting “Submit and Checkout”
If there are any errors they will be displayed and you will be given the chance to fix them
If it’s all good, a screen showing their invoice will appear
The Builders Menu
“Builders” will now appear as an option in their menu as shown in the following screenshot

Ask them to click on the Builders menu & ‘hover’ over “Your Membership”

These options are self-explanatory.
Explain that when they are getting people it’s good to show them how they can cancel if they need to (see above).
Rejoin someone who has previously been a member

If your membership of the CC has lapsed for any reason, you can rejoin at any time.
The great part about this is that your previously entered details will be retained.
It’s as simple as this

The following screen will then be displayed

After entering ‘ccfingers’, the following screen will be displayed

After clicking “Select” the following screen will be displayed:

All you need to do is enter your credit card details and press the “Submit and Checkout” button at the button and you’re re-activated!
How to build your team

As Simon Sinek famously said:
It starts with Why
What are the benefits of building and leading a team of team-building advocates?
Your higher purpose for building a team
What is going to make the biggest difference in people’s lives?
Typically people in your team:
Are easily distracted; they are inconsistent; they typically allow themselves to be held hostage and be overwhelmed by the urgent therefore continually sacrificing the important.
They can and must devote time to their Important as well as their Urgent.
It’s a progressive paradigm shift that you can help them make – it’s so worth it for them and most importantly, it will duplicate. That means you are having a great impact than you may at first realise.
You need to show your team members what it’s like when they find their first true network building partner who is willing to make advocacy and instinctive habit.
In the end we can accomplish relatively little on our own.
Most significant achievement is accomplished by organisations – in other words by teams of people.
How you select and equip team members is likely to be one of the biggest determinants of your success – in anything.
This course will help you gain clarity around the benefits for you in growing your team of team-building advocates.
It will then delve into the how-to’s and how best to allocate your time.
